War II who rescued over 2000 Jewish writers, intellectuals, painters,
composers from the south of occupied France. Marc Chagall, Hannah Arendt,
Franz Werfel and his wife Alma Mahler (Lynn Redgrave), Max Ernst, and Heinrich
Mann were among them.
William Hurt is Varian, and Julia Ormond is Miriam Davenport, the young
American woman who helped him. Also starring Alan Arkin, Matt Craven, and
Maury Chaykin.
